GRE填詞中，冒號什么情況?

GRE填詞中，巧用冒號，就可以迅速破題。不信，你看下面這道(單空6選2)題：

In his heyday, Sonny Bono’s role in public was _____: he was an accomplished lyricist, a mayoral success story, delegate from Palm Springs, and the husband of an internationally acclaimed vocalist.

A. protean

B. versatile

C. pedestrian

D. prominent

E. circumscribed

我們找到冒號，它出現在第一空的后面。冒號的功能是什么?冒號之后的內容是對冒號之前的內容的具體說明。那么，我們讀懂冒號之后的內容，把握住內容的核心意思，就可以判斷空白處的詞應該是什么，空白處的詞應該是對冒號之后的內容的一種濃縮性的性質性的評價。就這道題而言，我們發現冒號后講到了 Sonny Bono 這個人的多種身份：lyricist、mayor、delegate、husband，所以答案是：A選項. protean 和 B選項. versatile。
